Editor's Note:   This was a truly engaging and heartfelt interview with Christopher Sansone. His path reflects a deep commitment to healing and self-discovery, shaped in part by childhood trauma that ultimately guided him toward a life of service. Trained in life coaching, past-life regression, and soon to be certified in somatic breathwork, Christopher brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his work.

As we spoke, it became clear that his own journey of healing awakened an understanding of innate longing—not only within himself, but within all of us. This insight became the foundation for his book and his life’s work: helping others recognize, name, and compassionately engage with their inner struggles.

Longing: A Pilgrimage To Your Quiet Power Within feels like a meaningful steppingstone for anyone ready to explore what may be stirring beneath the surface of their life. Christopher reframes our deepest yearning not as something broken or needing to be fixed, but as an invitation to awaken. Blending psychology, ancient wisdom, and accessible reflective practices, he shows how longing—so often mistaken for emptiness—is actually an inner voice guiding us toward healing, purpose, and authentic power.

Drawing from decades of experience as a life, leadership, and spiritual coach, along with his own trauma recovery and spiritual practice, Christopher offers a grounded and compassionate path to transformation. His work supports readers in healing inherited wounds, moving beyond societal conditioning, reconnecting with intuition, and embracing longing as a catalyst for growth—ultimately leading to a life of purpose, presence, and love

At the heart of his work is a simple yet powerful mission: to help people uncover their soul’s longing, heal from past wounds, and step fully into their power—so they may live their purpose and contribute to a more just and compassionate world.

Except from Longing:

Sacred Calamity

A sacred calamity is an orchestrated dilemma—carefully arranged by the quiet teacher within—inviting us to turn inward, confront what holds us back, and free ourselves. A calamity shakes us up, evokes our curiosity, and grabs our attention for mastering yet another lesson to add to our sacred chest of wisdom. A sacred calamity is an invitation to transform.

Among the several lessons that we can take away from the five stories previously told, is that such extraordinary moments hold enormous potential for re-envisioning ourselves and how we approach living. When we recast those tremors, that at first shock and frighten, as invitations to ascend they take on an entirely different dimension. Certainly, there’s no benefit to trying to get around our reactions; however, great value is created by stepping into a calamitous event with complete presence, and with above all, curiosity. As each of us is a hero of our own life, we may choose to move into all of our experiences with a sense of exploration. When we do, we truly see, and we grasp the truth of our existence.

We’ve all had, and will continue to have, our own kinds of sacred calamities: by the death of a loved one, a life-threatening injury to our child, extreme risk to our health or capabilities, abuse and betrayal by someone we trusted, destruction to our homes by fire, by flood, or extreme weather. At first, they might seem like random misfortunes, incomprehensible dilemmas, no-win situations, and disastrous losses. At times we cope by blaming ourselves, other people, circumstances, or simply trying to write it off as bad luck. If awakened at the level of Vijnanamaya, our wisdom sheath, we grasp the possibility of a higher purpose at play. We can see that what had been causing us so much consternation might also be the budding of something intrinsic to our becoming happier, freer, or more loving. At first it might not look that way but, as the years unfold and upon deeper reflection, their value to us can become clear. It’s then that we become humbler, more accepting, and at peace.

As the stories of the five people show us, there’s a way of experiencing what on the surface appears only catastrophic that what renders them sacred is our response to them: accepting all of whatever has come to us, expressing honestly, opening ourselves to ourselves with vulnerability, reflecting for the wisdom that’s available to us, and ultimately choosing to live on with a more tender, and courageous, heart. We become our own hero worthy of our deepest respect, unconditional love, and admiration. When all is said and done, there can be no hero without sacred calamity and a calamity without a hero is just an awful experience.
