Editor’s Note: I was so excited to learn more about Rosanne and her fascinating life journey. Her story is one of continually unfolding—of becoming more deeply acquainted with herself through marriage, motherhood, divorce, psychotherapy, meditation, metaphysical exploration, and ultimately her discovery of the Diamond Approach, a spiritual path that brings together elements of Buddhist and Zen practices with modern psychology.
Unfolding the Heart explores love and loss, personal transformation, motherhood, cancer, grief, relationships, and the challenges that come with aging. Rather than suggesting that spiritual growth requires us to escape life’s difficulties, Rosanne invites us to see adversity as an opportunity to look more deeply within ourselves and discover the wisdom contained within our experiences.
At the heart of her memoir is a lifelong quest for spiritual understanding, self-discovery, healing, and a deeper presence in everyday life. During our conversation, we didn’t have enough time to explore one of the earliest experiences that shaped her spiritual journey: at the age of ten, Rosanne had a vision of Christ calling her to become a nun—a revelation that was not well received by her family. That early spiritual experience became the beginning of a lifelong search to understand herself, consciousness, and what it means to live an authentic spiritual life.
The central message of Unfolding the Heart is ultimately one of presence. Rosanne’s spiritual path does not lead her away from ordinary life; instead, she discovers spirituality within the full complexity of being human—with its relationships, disappointments, joys, losses, questions, and unexpected moments of grace. Her story reminds us that the path we are searching for may not be somewhere outside of ourselves. It may already be unfolding within us.
What I especially found interesting that as she tuned in to living in the moment she had many synchronistic moments that we talked about in the video.
Her journey speaks to that persistent feeling many of us have: There must be something more. Perhaps there is something deeper beneath the surface of our everyday existence, waiting for us to become still enough, present enough, and open enough to discover it.
