One of the first places people get stuck on a spiritual path is the question of divinity. Who do I work with? Who do I honor? Who is “right”? And underneath that… what if I choose wrong?
Let’s slow that down.
Choosing a divinity is not about loyalty tests, hierarchy, or proving devotion. It’s about resonance. It’s about relationship. It’s about whether the energy, mythology, values, and presence of that divinity actually support who you are and who you’re becoming.
Many of us were taught—explicitly or subtly—that there is one correct way to believe, one correct god, one correct structure. Even when we leave those systems, the imprint often remains. We carry guilt for being curious. Fear for being flexible. Anxiety about offending something unseen.
But divinity does not require fear to function.
Throughout history, people worked with many gods, spirits, ancestors, forces, and names for the sacred. Relationships shifted as lives changed. Devotion was lived, not locked. You are not less sincere because your path evolves.
A divinity that works for you will not demand you abandon your nervous system to be worthy. It won’t require you to erase parts of yourself to be accepted. It will challenge you at times, yes—but challenge and harm are not the same thing.
This step is not asking you to decide forever. It’s asking you to notice.
Who draws your attention repeatedly? Who feels grounding rather than destabilizing? Whose stories speak to your lived experience, not just an aesthetic?
It’s also okay if the answer right now is “I don’t know,” or “I’m not ready,” or “I’m honoring the path itself.” Spiritual maturity includes discernment and pacing.
You don’t owe devotion on demand. You don’t owe certainty before relationship. And you are allowed to walk with mystery without forcing it to name itself.
Today, I allow myself to choose connection over fear… and curiosity over obligation.
This is a step. Not a contract.
