One of the hardest parts of spiritual development is learning to trust yourself.

Most people begin their journey because they want to understand something they feel but cannot explain. They are searching for answers, looking for guidance, and hoping someone with more experience can help them recognize what they are experiencing. That support can be incredibly valuable, especially when we are learning something new.

The danger begins when seeking guidance turns into surrendering our own knowing.

Over time, some people stop asking themselves what they feel and start looking outside themselves for every answer. They question their own impressions, dismiss their own experiences, and wait for someone else to confirm what they already sensed. This is when intuition gets replaced.

When Another Voice Becomes Louder Than Your Own

A teacher should be a guide, not a replacement for your own inner wisdom. The purpose of teaching mediumship, tarot, or spiritual development is not to create students who depend on the teacher forever. A good teacher helps students develop the confidence to stand on their own.

I have always believed that my students should eventually trust themselves more than they trust me. That may sound unusual coming from a teacher, but I believe it is one of the greatest signs that teaching has worked. The goal is not to create followers. The goal is to help people develop their own connection, their own discernment, and their own confidence.

A teacher can offer tools, experience, and perspective. They can point out patterns, share what they have learned, and encourage growth. But they cannot replace another person’s relationship with Spirit or their ability to recognize their own intuitive information.

This is where many students struggle.

They receive an impression during a reading but immediately look for someone else to confirm it. Then they pull a tarot card and dismiss their own interpretation because another person sees something different. They feel a strong sense about something, but override it because they assume someone else must know better.

Slowly, their own voice becomes quieter.

Not because their intuition disappeared, but because they stopped trusting it.

Your Intuition Was Never Meant to Belong to Someone Else

Learning from others is an important part of growth. Every teacher, mentor, and development circle has something valuable to offer. We all benefit from people who have walked a path before us and are willing to share their experience.

However, there is a difference between learning from someone and handing them your authority.

Discernment means knowing when to receive guidance and when to return to yourself. It means being open to another perspective while still honoring your own experience.

Your intuition will not always arrive with certainty. It will not always provide a perfect answer. Sometimes it asks you to trust a quiet feeling, explore a possibility, and learn through experience.

That is how confidence develops.

Confidence does not come from finding someone who always has the answer. It comes from knowing you can listen, learn, question, and still trust yourself.

The greatest teachers do not create students who need them for every decision. They create people who recognize their own ability to connect, interpret, and grow.

Because your intuition was never meant to be replaced by someone else’s voice. It was meant to become your own.
